RESTRICTIONS

Abortion is illegal in Texas once a “heartbeat” is detected (around 6 weeks), even in the cases of rape and incest.  Emergency abortions are allowed "if the physician believes that a medical emergency
necessitates an abortion.

 

PUNISHMENT

*  Women are not arrested for having abortions (even though abortion is illegal), but

*  Anyone who helps them (including $$) can be sued in court by ANYONE (which protects lawmakers from being sued!)

*  The fine is a minimum of $10,000 plus legal/court costs

 

The goal of this law was to stop abortions by closing abortion CLINICS and aid organizations that helped low-income women pay expenses.  But could someone sue a PRIVATE "helper" like the father or a friend who helped?  $10,000+ is a lot of money.
